Genetically engineered organisms and agriculture
Genetic engineering in agriculture: between high flying expectations and complex risks
The use of genetic engineering in agriculture requires a comprehensive technology assessment
Testbiotech comment on EFSA’s assessment of genetically engineered oilseed rape GT73 for renewal authorisation under Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003 (application EFSA-GMO-RX-026/1) by Bayer
TESTBIOTECH Background 10 - 11 - 2022
Assessment of genetically modified Maize MON 87429 for food and feed uses, under Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003 (application EFSA-GMO-NL-2019-161) by Bayer
TESTBIOTECH Background 18 - 12 - 2022
The GMO Panel assessed the herbicide tolerant maize MON 87429 (EFSA, 2022a). This event was developed to confer tolerance to dicamba, glufosinate, quizalofop and 2,4-D herbicides. Further, the maize expresses the CP4-EPSPS protein and utilises an endogenous maize RNAi regulatory element to suppress its expression in pollen. This results in male sterility when MON 87429 weiterlesen
Assessment of genetically modified maize MON 95379 for food and feed uses, under Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003 (application EFSA-GMO-NL-2020-170) by Bayer
TESTBIOTECH Background 15 - 12 - 2022
The GMO Panel assessed maize MON 95379 (EFSA, 2022a). The maize contains genes expressing two new insecticidal Bt proteins, Cry1B.868 andCry1Da_7.Cry1Da_7 and Cry1B.868 are modified versions of Bt toxins which do not occur in nature. Cry1Da_7 shows enhanced activity against corn earworm, Cry1B.868 was changed to make the Bt toxin more effective against fall armyworm.
Assessment of genetically engineered maize DP4114 x MON 89034 × MON87411 × DAS- 40278-9 for food and feed uses, under regulation (EC) No 1829/2003 (application EFSA GMO-NL-2020-171) by Pioneer (Corteva)
TESTBIOTECH Background 12 - 12 - 2022
Assessment of genetically modified maize MIR162 for renewal authorisation, by Syngenta
TESTBIOTECH Background 22 - 10 - 2022
Assessment of genetically modified maize MON 89034 × 1507 × MIR162 × NK603 × DAS-40278-9 for food and feed uses, under regulation (EC) No 1829/2003 (application EFSA-GMO-NL-2018-151) by Dow AgroSciences
TESTBIOTECH Background 12 - 9 - 2022
The GMO Panel assessed the five-event stacked maize MON 89034 x 1507 x MIR162 x NK603 x DAS-40278-9, which is derived from crossing four genetically engineered maize events (EFSA, 2022a). The maize contains genes conferring resistance to four herbicides and produces six insecticidal proteins:• MON 89034 expressing Cry1A.105 and Cry2Ab2 insecticidal proteins;• 1507 expressing the weiterlesen
Testbiotech comment on EFSA’s assessment of genetically engineered oilseed rape MON 94100 (application EFSA-GMO-NL-2020-169) from Bayer
TESTBIOTECH Background 25 - 08 - 2022
The EFSA GMO panel assessed the oilseed rape MON 94100 which was developed to confer tolerance to dicamba herbicide. Oilseed rape MON 94100 expresses two variants of the DMO protein: DMO and DMO + 27. The DMO protein demethylates dicamba, producing 3,6-dichlorosalicylic acid and formaldehyde, conferring tolerance to dicamba-based herbicides. The inserted gene construct involves weiterlesen
Testbiotech comment on EFSA assessment of genetically engineered maize DP4114 x MON810 x MIR604 x NK603 and subcombinations, for food and feed uses, under Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003 (application EFSA-GMO-NL-2018-150) from Pioneer
TESTBIOTECH Background 07 - 04 - 2022
The EFSA GMO panel assessed the stacked maize DP4114 x MON810 x MIR604 x NK603 derived from crossing three genetically engineered maize events (EFSA, 2022a). The parental plants were assessed by EFSA in previous opinions. The maize contains genes conferring resistance to two herbicides: glufosinate and glyphosate, and produces five insecticidal cry proteins: • DP4114 weiterlesen
