GA21 cultivation

In July 2008 Syngenta submitted an application for cultivation of maize event GA21. EFSA stopped the application process in February 2009 requesting additional data from Syngenta. The clock was restartet in December 2010 and EFSA is expected to publish its opinion at the beginning of March 2010. The environmental risk assessment is lead by the Czech competent authority. In Spain GA21 maize already is being field tested for variety registration.

In the EU, GA21 maize has already been approved for food and feed uses (Community Register ). For more information on GA21 please click here .

In January 2010, the clock was stopped in the assessment process, presumably pending the request for additional information.
